Arctic Tundra

arctictundra

This photo was taken at Eureka, NU, an Environment Canada weather station located on Ellesmere Island and approximately 1000 miles from the North Pole.  Previously, I worked for the Canadian Detection of Atmospheric Change (CANDAC) group operating instruments measuring various aspects of the atmosphere.  About 14 km away from the main weather station complex and 600 metres up there is a lab that houses several of the instruments.  This photo was taken just out the doors of the lab and is looking NNW.  The land at the horizon on the left side of the photo is actually Axel Heiberg Island.

Currently on display at Earth Bound Bakery and Delicatessens
